Founding our own company – Part 1: the notary

You may ask yourself, why do we need our own company. The answer to this is quite easy. With a baby in the family, the time for traveling will significantly decrease and we have to do something to keep ourselves busy. So we had the brilliant idea to found our own company and use our time to program some games for Apple and Android devices with the cutest characters you can imagine – us.

Due to living in Germany we had to deal with a lot of bureaucratic stuff, that took a very long time to get accomplished. After we had decided that we would love to have an awesome company name and not only our own names listed, we checked several company types and decided that we want to found a “Unternehmergesellschaft (haftungsbeschränkt)”, similar to the English “Limited” company. If we had chosen the latter, we would have probably been operational a lot faster, but Limited just doesn’t sound as fancy as Unternehmergesellschaft (haftungsbeschränkt)!

Hitching a ride – too lazy to walk 😉

After several weeks of waiting we finally received our appointment at the notary just down the road of our office / home, but since we were a little lazy, we didn’t want to walk all the way and hitched a ride 😉

The time at the notary went by quickly, since you can use standard statues for founding a Unternehmergesellschaft (haftungsbeschränkt). After signing the papers we had to do the same as before…..we had to wait at home for the certified copies to arrive, so we could move on with the founding process.
